Now that the Holiday's are behind it is time to get out and start enjoying all the winter activites that Stowe, VT offers. The Stowe, Vermont region received tons of snow over the past couple of weeks so despite a few warms days there is plenty of the white stuff on the ground and more on the way over the next few days.
Downhill skiing, while certainly the main winter attraction in Stowe, isn't the only outdoor winter activity to enjoy. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, skating, sledding... the list goes on.There are great places to enjoy these activities: from resorts such as Trapp Family Lodge and Stowe Mountain Resort to Town owned properties such as the Recreation Path and Cady Forest. The Stowe Land Trust website is a great resource for trail locations for winter activites. For a backwoods x-country skiing adventure also check out the Catamount Trail that passes through several locations in Stowe. Marshall hill behind Stowe Elementary is a local favorite for sledding. Close by the elementary school is Jackson Arena, check out the attached schedule for public skating times.
For a longer adventure The Long Trail runs along the spine of Mt. Mansfield with opportunities for snowshoe, winter camping and backcountry skiing. Before heading out on the Long Trail in winter please check in with The Green Mountain Club.
If you are looking for a slower paced outdoor activity try a horse drawn carriage ride along the Rec Path with The Gentle Giants or take a walk on any of Stowe's back roads. What ever you speed or equipment there is always somewhere beautiful to get out and enjoy!
